We’re highlighting the driven and creative women behind Soybu. Meet our VP of Operations: Gina Akins. She is one of the standout leaders in our office. We asked her some questions about her life and how she stays active. #SoybuSpotlight
What is your role within Soybu?
I am the VP of Operations. I work with all departments in the organization to coordinate, improve processes, and create efficiencies.
Tell us about yourself. Are you a mom, busy professional, athlete, or all of the above?
I am all of the above. Specifically, I am the mom of two teenage girls, VP of Operations for Active Fashion Group, and a tennis enthusiast.
What does being a woman mean to you?
To me, being a woman is a balance of opposites. Being tough and gentle, a businesswoman and a mom, decisive and contemplative, selfless and selfish. These are all parts of what it means for me to be a woman and is often challenging, but always rewarding.
What woman has made an impact in your personal life and why?
There are so many, but I would have to say, my Mom. She moved me and my sisters across the country when we were young. It was a bold move at the time and one that took me many years to fully appreciate. While raising three daughters she put herself through college and worked full time. She taught me about love, respect, and hard work.
#HowDoYouSoybu: How do you stay active in your life, community, or family?
Both of my daughters play volleyball and tennis, so when I am not cheering them on, I play tennis. This past year I played in a women’s league, mixed doubles and a flex league with my husband. As a family, we also like to hike with our dogs: two wheaten terriers and a German shepherd. There are so many amazing trails in Colorado to explore. No matter what I am doing, I have a Soybu legging, skort, or top on because they are the most comfortable items I own.
What is your favorite Soybu article of clothing and why?
I love our skorts, all of them. I can wear them to play tennis or out to dinner. They are my go-to when I vacation and all summer long.
